5 OHL Alumni Playing For AHL’s Portland Pirates

The Portland Pirates are the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. This past season, 2009-10, five Ontario Hockey League alumni played for the Pirates. Despite finishing fifth in the American Hockey League during the regular season, Portland was swept in the first round of the AHL playoffs by Manchester.

Mike Weber was picked in the second round by the Sabres in 2006 draft. He has played a total of 23 games with the NHL club since entering the world of professional hockey in 2007. However, Mike played the complete 2009-10 season with the Pirates. Mike played four seasons in the OHL from 2003-04 to 2006-07. His first three seasons were played with the Windsor Spitfires while his fourth and final season was split, 30 games apiece, between the Spitfires and the Barrie Colts.

Cody McCormick played four seasons in the OHL with the Belleville Bulls from 1999-00 to 2002-03. Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 2001, Cody played in 190 games with the NHL

Look out for Detroit, Ottawa in Stanley Cup Playoffs

History is on the side of the Red Wings, about 4-1 in a consensus of several sportsbooks odds-makers. Of 21 trips to the finals, the team has carried home the cup 10 times. The Senators, 5-1, have captured the cup only once: 1926-27.

Detroit posted the NHL’s best record, 58-16, successfully blending an aging core of players and a stellar group of youngsters. But the Red Wings must dispose of early round foes quickly so they can survive a possible grueling seven-game war in the finals.

Leader Steve Yzerman is playing like he did when the team won back-to-back cups starting in 1996-97.

His 1,300th career point in the playoffs boosted him to second all-time on the team. Experiencing his first championship, the center was third in overall playoff points. The following year, the longtime Red Wings captain, 40, led playoff scoring with 24 points.

Nicklas Lidstrom, maybe the top NHL defenseman, dominates with quick puck movement and

In this time when every boy wants to be the next Alexander Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby it stands to reason that Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys are flying off the shelves. However, even though the demand for current NHL sweaters is high, the market for vintage hockey jerseys is just as hot. Whether it is an oldtimer who likes to remember the glory days of the NHL, or a youngster who wants to wear something a little different than his friends hockey sweaters from defunct NHL teams are surprisingly popular.

One team like the Hartford Whalers, who truth be told, was one of the doormats of the league during its relatively brief NHL tenure, probably never sold much of its merchandise outside of its own city while the team was actually still in the league. However, more than a decade after the franchise moved to Carolina to become the Hurricanes, Whalers gear is now hotter than ever. The same can be said of franchises like the Quebec

NHL Hockey Betting Lines & Tips

It’s hockey playoff season, one of the most anticipated times of year for NHL hockey fans everywhere. If you know a bit about hockey, the most talented players, how the teams play together, and the rules of hockey, you can make an income just from that.

NHL Hockey Betting – The Money Line

Initially, the most common type of betting in NHL hockey betting is most commonly practiced as something called the money line. For example, given these betting figures: Boston Bruins – 120 and Buffalo Sabres +120, the bettor sees that the Bruins are the favorite team. If you place your bet on the Bruins, you must bet 0 for ever 0 that you earn. So if you decide to make a gamble of say 0 and the Bruins actually win the game, you will collect 0 (the first 0 with an additionally earned 0).

Moreover, if you believe the Sabres might win and place your bet on them of say 0, you would win 0 (your 0 plus another

History Of NHL Jerseys

An interesting way to trace the history of the NHL is to explore the many different NHL jerseys that have evolved over the years. Today, official NHL merchandise holds its own in the sports apparel market, offering numerous colorful selections to choose from. A growing trend in the official NHL merchandise market includes the purchase of vintage NHL jerseys. This allows you to further admire the changes that this intense sport has undergone.

Amateur hockey teams flourished before 1904 until the first professional NHL league was born. Although quite popular throughout the rest of the world, especially Canada, it was the United States that first brought the sport to the professional level. Tucked away in the mining region of the Upper Peninsula in Michigan, the start of the International Pro Hockey League blossomed. Three years later, it was no more. In its place, the National Hockey Association (NHA) was established.

In 1910, there were four

The New Favorite on the New Jersey Devils

Rookie goaltenders have had success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs before – most notably with Ken Dryden in 1971 and Patrick Roy in 1986, both leading the Montreal Canadiens to the Cup – but never before has a crop of rookie goalies dominated the playoffs like they have this season.

Of the five remaining teams in this year’s playoffs, three are led by rookie goalies and another by a first-year starter. Carolina’s Cam Ward, Buffalo’s Ryan Miller, Anaheim’s Ilya Bryzgalov, and San Jose’s Vesa Toskala have all enjoyed incredible playoff success thus far.

Seven-year veteran Dwayne Roloson of the Edmonton Oilers, who was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Minnesota Wild, is the only experienced goaltender left. I don’t think anyone would have predicted that, especially with the presence of such big-name goalies as Martin Brodeur and Miikka Kiprusoff, and other veteran backstops or NHL powerhouses like Detroit’s Manny Legace, Dallas’s Marty Turco,
